This is the Type I pattern of July 1864, with the same dimensions as the above for the .58 caliber elongated Minie ball with the U.S. embossed front flap. There is only one internal flap (which marks it as the Type I). The belt loops further indicate that this box was made at the Allegheny Arsenal. It retains all buckles, straps, finial and original tins. It is in overall very good condition. The outside leather is somewhat flaked, indicating only honest use. The inside front flap is stamped Co D/M.V.M. A most desirable accouterment; good leather is getting harder and harder to find.
