This is the U.S. Pattern 1861 .58 caliber cartridge box with an extremely fine oval plate. The exterior leather on this one is pliable & supple with no cracks or flakes, an extremely fine quality. The interior flaps are also nice and smooth. Both bottom buckles are intact and the tins are correct and in good shape. The box is flawed only in that the bottom latch tab is torn and the finial is missing. The box measures 7.2" x 1.7" x 5.2". While not perfect, this is an extremely fine, eminently displayable accouterment.
