These were very popular with the soldiers because they were easy to carry. The cup is quite an ingenious device, made of three tapered rings which, when lifted, all join together to form a 3" tall cup. When not in use, it collapses into concentric rings and fits into a small carrying case. The case measures @ 2_" in diameter x 1_" tall, small enough to fit neatly into a pocket or knapsack. The cup is pewter; the case is tin and covered with a reddish japanned finish. Both are in excellent condition, but the lid's finish is somewhat worn. This is the first of these I have found in a long while.
