Mess pans, unlike their mess plate counterparts, have been recovered in all sizes in both Union and Confederate campsites. This is a medium-sized pan measuring 8½” in diameeter across the top, 4½” across the bottom and 2½” in height. It is non-painted tin, and this one is non-recovered. Most probably a sutler item. It is in excellent condition with no dents or dings and very little rust. It has been in the Coleman collection since 1981.
