July 19, 1862. Three sketches on the front page of this one: bust views of Brigadier Generals McCall and Fitz-John Porter and the �White House� on the Pamunky, lately occupied by Union forces. Inside full-page sketches include: the Army of the Potomac-Captain De Hart's battery shelling the rebel advance at the Battle of Gaine's Mill; burying the dead soldiers and horses at Fairoaks Station _ a very somber Waud sketch. Half-page sketches: Governor Stanly's reception at Washington, NC; presentation of a sword to General Burnside on behalf of the state of Rhode Island; the bridge through Chickahominy swamp; a picket on the Chickahominy. There is also a _ page map of the seat of the war in Virginia showing the old and new positions of the Army of the Potomac. The central, double-page sketch shows Griffin's and Martin's batteries pouring canister into the rebel ranks at Gaines's' Mills. This is a complete (16 page paper) in overall very good condition with some age discoloration. Stories accompany all illustrations; there is a full complement of period advertisements and two political cartoons
