September 20, 1865 There is a good deal of political controversy reported in this paper as parties are gearing up for elections. Important coverage of the Andersonville Prison commandant's trial. Captain Heinrich Wirz was, of course, a very controversial figure during the war and remains so with historians to this day. South Carolina sends Washington word that they have officially repealed the order of secession and voted in favor of slavery's abolition. There is news about the situation for returning soldiers and lots of advertisements and reports that speak to a country trying to get back to normal. This is an eight-page paper in excellent condition.
