August 24, 1861. Front page portrays a dramatic sketch of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek (a Missouri battle) and the death of General Lyon. Interior sketches include a full page drawing of the “Landing of Union Troops at Parkersburg, Western Virginia.” Packages and letters for the troops being processed at Adams Express Office; the 79th NY stripped of their colors as punishment for insubordination; the 79th NY mutineers under arrest. Another full-page sketch shows General Rosecranz’s headquarters in Clarksburg, Western Virginia. The double page sketch dramatically depicts the Battle of Wilson’s Creek with Union troops under the command for Agenerals Lyon and Siegel and Confederate forces under Generals McCullough and Price. Full stories accompany all illustrations. In addition, there is a full complement of period advertisements, several for medicine and clothing, one for the Smith and Wesson revolver. This is a most handsome, 16-page paper in excellent condition.
