This is a handwritten receipt dated 9 January 1862, acknowledging receipt of and payment for been received for "Alcorn's Brigade" of the 1st Mississippi. The Brigade Quarter Master received 1,317 lbs of beef for which he paid Mr. W. I Winstead $72.45. The 1st MS was captured at Fort Donelson and Port Hudson. It later served with the Army of the Tennessee from Resaca to Bentonville. The receipt is on a half-sheet of blue paper and written in black ink.
