This is the heavy M1840 pattern with its distinctive feature being a hilt made of iron, rather than brass. The sword has a slightly curved, single-edged blade with a false edge extending back 8" from the point. The blade retains about 90%+ luster with only a few age spots. The pommel, knuckle bow and quillon are iron and have evenly aged over the years. The scabbard is in solid condition with more rust than I would like, but no real damage. The sword measures 41�_" overall with a blade 35�_" x 1�_" wide at the hilt. There are no markings at all on either the sword or the scabbard, marking this as an import.
