Soldiers spent many hours keeping their uniform buttons shiny. The button board was, therefore, most useful in protecting the cloth of the jacket, coat or dress coat. They were generally made of wood or metal and were of various designs. This one is metal and designed to slide around five buttons at a time. It measures 7¾" x 2" and is in solid condition. The brass finish is somewhat dulled from age. These have become quite scarce.
