This is a most handsome 15_" period fife made of grenadalia, a hard wood quite similar to ebony. It retains @ 85% of its original finish and each end is capped with a 2" German-silver tip (somewhat dulled with age, but not pitted in any way). The name "Crosby" and the Crosby logo are clearly stamped half way between the mouth-hole and the finger holes. Crosby was a Boston manufacturer who made fifes from 1852 through the war. Keyed in B-flat (pretty standard) this is an excellent specimen.
