This is the model with the so-called high hump lockplate. Both the lockplate and hammer are heavily pitted and no markings remain on the lockplate except for faint remnants of the date on the tail. The lock does, however, work. The buttplate is also heavily pitted, but is marked US on the tang. The two-piece triggerguard is present with no provision for a sling swivel. Coloration is smooth and brown. The round barrel is 40" long and is bored .58 caliber. The barrel is also moderately pitted overall with some slightly heavier pitting around the bolster area. The tang screw has been replaced. The barrel is attached to the stock by three barrel bands. The lower barrel band is the correct flat style, but the upper two are incorrect being round faced. The middle barrel band is an original Springfield with all of the original blue finish. There is no sling swivel on that band. The upper barrel band is also an original Springfield. The forearm ahead of the lower band is replaced and does not match the balance of the stock in color or grain. A steel nosecap is also present along with a straight-shank, tulip-head ramrod (a replacement) The buttstock has been cracked through the area immediately behind the breechplug tang. It has been glued back together and reinforced with nails which are evident from the surface. A small amount of wood is missing around the breechplug tang and next to the tang between the tang and the buttplate. No marks are present on the barrel. Faint inspector's mark is present on the stock's left side and the stock shows moderate to heavy wear overall. The gun's condition is fair, but it is an authentic Richmond rifle and I have a letter which will accompany the piece to verify that.
