This is a hand-carved set in a walnut case. The chessmen are red and white and carved from bone. The case is 4" x 3" and made of walnut with a sliding lid. Inside the lid the set is identified to "A. D. Schalck 1858." The chessmen are in well-used condition; a couple of the bases need to be glued and one white pawn is missing. This identified set has been in the Coleman collection since 1971.
