This is a brass plate with applied tongue and belt loop bars with cast slides. It was copied from the French 1847 chasseur a pied accouterments. This plate was authorized for Marine Corps riflemen and several Army of the Potomac regiments were issued these with French-made uniforms. This one is in very fine recovered condition and has aged to a nice, brown patina. All four pieces are complete (one slightly bent). It was recovered from a campsite near Chancellorsville, VA.
