This standard, regulation pattern 1839 box plate measures 3_" x 2" and was made for enlisted infantry from 1857 - 1863. This one must be described as in excellent condition. Like the matching oval belt plate, the face is die struck & made of rolled brass. The face is about 90% bright; there are only some light "polishing marks" on the front. The back is lead filled with iron wire loops. It most closely resembles plate 488 in O'Donnell and Campbell and is in near mint condition.
